Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Favorite movie?

The Lion King, without a doubt. In terms of computer animation, I’d say it’s a toss-up between the first Toy Story and Inside Out. In terms of live-action, The Empire Strikes Back is one that sticks out for me.

Favorite TV show?

Avatar: The Last Airbender, with its sequel series, The Legend of Korra, being a very close second. I also enjoy the DC Animated TV shows, such as Batman: The Animated SeriesJustice League Unlimited, and the recently-revived Young Justice.

What piqued your interest in film criticism?

When I saw The Last Airbender, M. Night Shyamalan’s abysmal adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender (my favorite TV show growing up), and I hated it so much that it spurred my desire to talk about what makes movies great and what makes them bad. So thanks, M. Night, for ruining an adaptation that was gift wrapped for you and for leading to my interest in reviewing films.

How do you rate movies and TV shows in your reviews?

As stated before, The Lion King is my favorite movie of all time; as such, I often use it as the gold standard against which I compare films. Along the same line of thought, I use Avatar: The Last Airbender as my gold standard for TV shows. If you’re asking about my rating system, I use a slightly modified version of a rating system used by YouTuber and video game critic Joe “Angry Joe” Vargas. Here is my version of his rating system, plus a few examples of films and TV shows that may garner certain scores:

0/10: Destroy all copies onsite (The Last Airbender (2010))

1/10: What were they thinking?!

2/10: Garbage

3/10: Terrible

4/10: Slightly below average (Star Wars Rebels S3E6: “The Iron Squadron”)

5/10: Average

6/10: Slightly above average (The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride or The Lion King 1 1/2)

7/10: Satisfying; may leave you wanting more (Star Wars Rebels S3E7: “The Wynkahthu Job”)
